Sustainability at Märtens

Tradition and innovation drive us forward – but we are also increasingly focusing on sustainable practices. The journey may be long, but we are pursuing it with determination and are delighted to be making steady progress. We are therefore particularly proud to have already received the EcoZert award three times. This quality award from Creditreform recognises companies that meet particularly high standards in terms of sustainability and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). In the run-up to the award, questions relating to the environment, social issues and corporate governance must be answered to demonstrate sustainable practices, and the annual financial statements are also audited.
Since 2022, an in-house solar installation on the roof of our production hall in Flensburg has been providing climate-neutral energy. The installation is a key component of our decarbonisation strategy and significantly reduces our CO2 emissions. It covers an area of around 1,800 m² and has a peak output of 300 kWh. In addition, an energy storage system is available which, for example, supplies electricity in the morning when there is little daylight – electricity that remained unused the previous day.
As a global company, some of our colleagues are frequently on the road. We are therefore constantly working to minimise our transport-related carbon footprint. For instance, we are in the process of switching our car fleet from diesel to electric power wherever possible. And to ensure our colleagues can hit the road at any time, we have installed several public charging points on our company premises.
In addition, our employees can lease company bikes on favourable terms. This also helps, in its own small way, to ensure that more and more team members cycle to work, thereby making their own personal contribution to reducing CO2 emissions every day.
