"The technical know-how is just incredible!"

Märtens is known worldwide as a valued manufacturer of conveyor belts made of plastic and metal, and our team is actively working for our customers in all corners of the globe.

One of our international colleagues is Tony Gibson. As Area Sales Manager, he looks after our customers in the UK. In the interview, he tells us more about his work.

How long have you been working at Märtens and how did you come to the company?
I have now been working at Märtens for seven years. I already worked with Märtens at my previous employer. When the contact person for the region at the time retired a few months later, he asked me if I could imagine joining Märtens as his successor. I was very interested, so I flew to Germany for the interview and started at Märtens shortly afterwards.

What are your tasks as Area Sales Manager?
It's very different. I am the contact person for all matters concerning Märtens' business in the UK. To do this, I look after new and existing customers and advise companies that are interested in working with us.

What do you enjoy most about your work at Märtens?
The great variety! Our customers include manufacturers of biscuits, chocolate and much more. Being able to look behind the scenes of production is a great privilege. But I often ask myself: who is going to eat all that (laughs)? It's really incredible! But I also like all the travelling I get to do, because I'm often on site with customers. Then I drive all over the UK and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

At Märtens, every day is different. It makes the time fly by - sometimes I can't believe I've been there for seven years!

What makes Märtens stand out?
The technical know-how of the team is outstanding. Some time ago, a customer contacted us with a production problem. I spoke to the colleagues in Flensburg and they had a solution for our customer straight away - really perfect!

What is your favourite way to spend your free time?
That's easy: in the water! I'm an enthusiastic diver, and that at any time of the year. You can often see my car parked on the shore and I'm 20 metres further out in the water (laughs). I also spend a lot of time with my wife and two grown-up children.
